Eileen Hess, SWLC

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming — especially when your relationship is struggling or you feel disconnected from yourself or your partner. I’m Eileen, a trauma-informed therapist in Bozeman, Montana, and I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-based approach that helps couples, individuals, and families rebuild connection, navigate conflict, and experience greater emotional safety and intimacy.

I also work with teens and young adults, supporting them in navigating anxiety, self-esteem, identity exploration, and relationship challenges — always with an attachment-focused lens.

My Approach: Emotionally Focused & Attachment-Based

At the heart of my work is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment-based approach grounded in the science of how we form and maintain emotional bonds. Whether working with couples longing to reconnect, individuals healing from relational wounds, or teens navigating family and peer relationships, I help clients:

  • Understand how unmet attachment needs drive conflict and disconnection.

  • Recognize and shift unhelpful patterns that keep them stuck.

  • Create safer, more open communication that fosters closeness and trust.

When working with younger clients, I also incorporate creative and play-based techniques to help them explore emotions in ways that feel natural and comfortable.

Specialties & Focus Areas

I provide counseling for:

  • Couples wanting to improve communication and rebuild emotional safety

  • Individuals seeking to better understand relationship patterns and heal from relational trauma

  • Teens and young adults working through anxiety, relationships, and identity development

  • Clients who want to better understand and regulate their emotions through a nervous-system informed lens

Therapy Modalities I Use:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) (primary focus)

  • Polyvagal-Informed Nervous System Work

  • Creative & Play Techniques (for younger clients)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) (when helpful for specific situations)

About Me

Originally from Minnesota, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Bethel University in 2020. After relocating to Bozeman, I completed my Master’s degree in Trauma-Informed Clinical Social Work at Winona State University in 2023. My professional background spans both Minnesota and Montana, where I’ve had the privilege of working with couples, individuals, teens, and families.

I’m particularly passionate about helping couples and individuals explore how their attachment histories shape their relationships today — and how deeper emotional understanding can lead to lasting change.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me hiking Bozeman’s beautiful trails, training for CrossFit competitions, or soaking up time with my partner and our dog, Maisy.
