Kayla Lyons, Intern

Starting therapy can feel like a big step — especially when life feels heavy, change feels hard, or you're not sure how to move forward. I’m Kayla, a counseling intern here in Bozeman, and I work with clients age 10 and up using a warm, relational, and developmentally informed approach.

I’m especially passionate about supporting kids and teens, helping them feel safe, seen, and understood as they navigate the ups and downs of growing up. I also love working with families and individuals who are ready to strengthen their relationships and reconnect with themselves or their loved ones.

My Approach: Relational, Developmental & Attachment-Based

I believe that every phase of life brings its own challenges — and that healing starts with feeling deeply supported. My approach is grounded in the belief that we all do better when we feel safe in our relationships. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment theory, and person-centered care to help clients:

  • Understand how past experiences shape current emotions and relationships

  • Move through difficult transitions with support and clarity

  • Build deeper emotional connection with themselves and those they love

With younger clients, I use creative, play-based techniques that help them express themselves in ways that feel natural and fun. I’m currently receiving training in EFT and am excited to continue deepening that work here at Little Bear Counseling.

About Me

I was born and raised in Bozeman and earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Montana State University. I’m now working toward my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University, focusing on child and adolescent care.

My years teaching and mentoring young people helped me realize how much I love walking alongside kids, teens, and families through life’s big (and little) moments. I bring warmth, curiosity, and care into every session.

When I’m not working, I’m probably outside with my husband and our dog. I teach skiing at Big Sky in the winter, and in the summer, I love rafting, swimming in mountain lakes, and digging in my garden. Being on the water — or out in the mountains — is my happy place.
